ECONOMIC DISCUSSION
Joe Santos, Ph.D., Director and Professor of Economics in the Ness School of Management and Economics at South Dakota State University, where he oversees the Dykhouse Program in Money, Banking, and Financial Regulation. Areas of Joe’s research include measuring the burdens of financial regulation and the credibility of monetary policy, chronicling and assessing the efficiency of early twentieth-century commodity futures markets, and evaluating the distribution of instructional resources across institutes of higher education. . Joe is the voice of Monday Macro (http://schooleddotblog.com), which airs on select Mondays on South Dakota Public Radio’s In the Moment with Lori Walsh. Dr. Santos earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from Rutgers University.
Jared McEntaffer, Ph.D., CEO and Chief Economist, Dakota Institute for Business and Economic Analysis, is a South Dakota Native with years of experience in analyzing and communicating about the South Dakota economy. McEntaffer earned his bachelor’s degree at SDSU and his Ph.D. at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He began his career teaching Economics at Big 10 Universities but returned to South Dakota in 2017 to lead Benchmark Data Labs. Now, Jared brings his experience and expertise to the Dakota Institute. His research fields include economic impact modeling, economic forecasting, regional labor market assessments, and treatment effect estimation

Tony is responsible for the overall growth, support and leadership of First Premier Bank’s Wealth Management, Private, Business, Retail, and Mortgage Banking Teams. CYBERSECURITY & ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Andrea Thompson, CEO, DARC (Dakota State Applied Research Corp), has a distinguished career in international policy, national security, intelligence operations and leader development. She is the CEO of DARC, an innovative company providing cutting-edge solutions for the most challenging cybersecurity threats. She has also served as U.S. Under Secretary of State, as well as the National Security Advisor to the Vice President. Prior to government roles, Thompson led the McChrystal Group Leadership Institute. A proud military veteran, Thompson served for over 25 years in the U.S. Army, including combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
David De Jong, Ed.D., is the Dean of the College of Education & Human Performance and Director of Teacher Apprenticeships at Dakota State University. Before this, he was an Associate Professor and Chair of the Division of Educational Leadership in the School of Education at the University of South Dakota. Dr. De Jong has taught graduate online and hybrid courses and chaired many doctoral dissertation committees. He has published 32 peer-reviewed journal articles, and his research agenda includes technology, innovation, and simulations. His current projects include being part of the South Dakota Teacher Apprenticeship Pathway and leading artificial intelligence trainings throughout the region.
Kimberly Hogstad, serves as a vice president at Sanford Health, where she leads a multidisciplinary team responsible for protecting the confidentiality and integrity of patient data and patient care services. Serving as the Information Security Officer, Kim has led the implementation of the Information Security Program focusing on strategic business alignment, prioritized risk management and promotion of organizational culture and governance. In addition, Kim stresses the importance of agility in the Information Security Program to ensure the organization is positioned to respond and adapt to emerging threats, new regulatory requirements, and changes in business strategy. Prior to joining Sanford, Kim held various technical and leadership positions at Mayo Clinic.
